1 1/3 cup butter
1 1/3 cup lard
3 cups sugar
2 Tablespoons orange rind
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 eggs
1/3 cup milk
8 cups flour
2 Tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Grease and flour cookie sheet (I usually use parchment paper instead).
Preheat oven to 375˚F.
In a medium sized bowl mix flour, baking powder and salt, set aside.
In a large bowl cream butter, lard and sugar. Add rind, vanilla and eggs, mix well. Add half flour mixture. Mix in milk, then add remaining flour mixture until combined.
On a floured surface, roll out dough about 1/2-inch thick. Add additional flour if dough is too sticky. Cut dough into desired shapes.
Bake for 6-8 minutes.
Cool on wire rack and frost with your favorite buttercream or cream cheese frosting.
Notes: I use dried orange rind.
Recipe from Tara Lynne Wilson….from her Grandma. I have made them and they really are delicious.
